Travie McCoy

Travie McCoyYou may remember Travie McCoy from MTV in the summer of 2002 when he was in a MC Battle on the show Direct Effect. Or you may recall the time he smashed his microphone into the head of man for yelling racial taunts at him during a concert in 2008. He has also featured with Kelly Rowland on her single Daylight and with Pink on the track This is How it Goes Down. If you don’t know Travie McCoy you should check out his fresh debut album Lazarus.

He is currently lead vocalist with MTV Video Music Award Best Group winner Gym Class Heroes. McCoy lays out a funky feel good sound with his freestyle vocal in which is in the style of colossal artist Pharell.

McCoy dated Katy Perry prior to comedian Brand’s involvement with the pop princess. Rumor has it that the album was originally called Forgetting Katy Perry in reference to Russell Brand’s role in the film Forgetting Sarah Marshall but fortunately Travie has moved onto bigger and better things.

Lead single of the album Billionaire which features Bruno Mars sent shockwaves into the music world and debuted at number 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. Lazurus debuted strongly on its release but the optimistic nature and funky blend of hip-hop, reggae, and alternative rock supplied perfectly by Travie McCoy are seeing it fast become the sleeper hit album of 2010.
